Skills Matching Scheme
BASIC REQUIREMENTS ONLY
Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania & Western Australia - Overseas job
opportunities.
State governments in Australia are keen to provide job opportunities to attract
skilled migrants who are working in occupations that are in short supply. The
STNI OCCUPATION LIST is designed to meet the needs of business and industry
where employers are having difficulty finding skilled workers in the above
states. Upon application to one of these state governments, applicants who
otherwise would not pass the points test can now be considered if the
occupation is on their STNI occupations demand list.
If your immigration is successful under this scheme you will receive a
permanent residence visa for Australia.
*Applicants are usually required to have 'vocational' English. However, in South Australia and Tasmania, an applicant may qualify if they achieve an average band score of 4.5 on the four components of the IELTS test, and are prepared to pay a fee to upgrade their English Skills to 'vocational' level after arrival in the nominated State. The Australian mission processing the application will advise if this concessional arrangement can be used.

New Skilled Visas for Regional Australia
The Australian Government recently announced that it will introduce a new visa for skilled migrants who are prepared to live and work in regional Australia.
From 1 July 2004, eligible people who want to come to Australia as skilled migrants will be able to obtain a three-year temporary residence visa (Temporary Skilled - Independent Regional Migration Visa) if they commit to living and working in regional Australia. Use the links above to find appropriate job opportunities.
Two years after immigration, they will be able to apply for permanent residency.
Under the new visa type, existing minimum requirements for skilled immigration will still need to be met. Applicants will need to:
- be under 45 years of age when they apply,
- have at least vocational English,
- nominate an occupation on the Skilled Occupations List (a skilled occupation), and
- be found suitable for that occupation by the relevant Australian assessing authority
- have recent work experience in a skilled occupation, or
- have recently completed an Australian qualification.
The new visa is aimed only at skilled migrants who can meet the minimum requirements for the visa. People who cannot meet these requirements should not apply.
